Egg & Embryo Freezing
Egg & Embryo Cryopreservation
Preserve your fertility today — for the family you envision tomorrow.
What is Egg & Embryo Cryopreservation?
Cryopreservation is the process of freezing and storing eggs (oocytes) or embryos at ultra-low temperatures (\u2212196\u00b0C in liquid nitrogen) for future use. Modern vitrification technology achieves survival rates above 90%, making egg and embryo freezing a highly reliable fertility preservation strategy. At Ova IVF, we offer both elective fertility preservation and medical fertility preservation for patients facing treatments that may affect their reproductive capacity.
Who is this for?
- Women wishing to delay childbearing (social or career reasons)
- Patients facing chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or pelvic surgery
- Couples with surplus embryos from an IVF cycle
- Women with diminishing ovarian reserve who wish to preserve eggs now
- Couples requiring a delay between stimulation and transfer (endometrial preparation)
- Single women or same-sex couples planning future family building
Key Benefits
Step-by-Step Procedure
A clear, transparent walkthrough of every stage of your Egg & Embryo Freezing treatment at Ova IVF.
Consultation & Ovarian Reserve Assessment
AMH blood test and antral follicle count (AFC) ultrasound assess your ovarian reserve and predict the likely number of eggs retrievable.
Ovarian Stimulation
Daily hormone injections stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple follicles over 8–12 days, monitored by serial ultrasound and blood tests.
Trigger Injection & Egg Retrieval
A trigger injection finalises egg maturation. Eggs are retrieved under sedation via transvaginal ultrasound-guided aspiration.
Egg/Embryo Assessment
Retrieved eggs are assessed for maturity. For embryo freezing, mature eggs are fertilised (via IVF or ICSI) and cultured to blastocyst stage (Day 5).
Vitrification
Mature eggs or high-quality embryos are rapidly cooled using vitrification — an ultra-fast freezing technique that prevents ice crystal formation and preserves cellular integrity.
Cryostorage
Frozen eggs or embryos are stored in labelled cryovials in liquid nitrogen tanks at −196°C. Storage can be maintained for several years.
Thawing & Use (When Ready)
When you are ready to use your frozen eggs or embryos, they are carefully thawed. Eggs are fertilised via ICSI; embryos are transferred in a Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) cycle.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long can eggs or embryos be stored?
Eggs and embryos can be stored for many years. Pakistani regulations and clinic policies govern maximum storage duration; our team will advise you at consultation.
What is the difference between egg freezing and embryo freezing?
Egg freezing preserves unfertilised eggs (suitable for single women or those without a partner). Embryo freezing requires fertilisation first and is typically used by couples after an IVF cycle.
Does egg freezing guarantee a future pregnancy?
Egg freezing improves your chances but does not guarantee pregnancy. Success depends on the number and quality of eggs frozen, and your age at the time of freezing.
